Overview

Turkey's two most photographed natural wonders sit on the same route: Lake Salda, whose magnesium-rich water earned it the nickname "Turkey's Maldives", and Pamukkale, whose snow-white terraces were woven by thermal springs over millennia. Both are far from Alanya (270 and 380 km) — which is why the day starts early: you are collected at 02:00 and can sleep on the way.

After a breakfast stop in Antalya, the first destination is Lake Salda: turquoise water, white sand and about 45 minutes of free time. Around 11:00 you reach Pamukkale, with roughly three hours for the travertines, the ancient city of Hierapolis and the ancient theatre. You can wade into the travertine pools. The Pamukkale entrance fee is not included (about €30); Salda entry is included.

Lunch is served in Pamukkale and dinner in Acıpayam on the way back — all three meals are included. You are at your hotel around 23:00. A long day, but the fullest of your holiday — we suggest leaving the next day free.

Why does the tour leave at 02:00 in the night?

Pamukkale is 380 km from Alanya. The early start gets you to Salda in the calm morning hours and to Pamukkale before the crowds and the midday heat. The coach suits overnight travel, and most guests sleep on the way.

Can you swim in Lake Salda?

Swimming is banned in the protected sections of the lake; a designated public beach area is open for bathing and the rules can change by season. Your guide points out the valid area on the day. Walking and photos on the white sand are always allowed.

Why is the Pamukkale entry not included?

The fee is the official museum tariff and changes from time to time (about €30). You buy the ticket yourself at the gate; cash and cards are accepted. The Lake Salda entry, by contrast, is included in the tour price.
